by shifting away from raw-material trade, into value-added trade.

Job Description:

We are seeking a passionate and highly skilled Co-Founder and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our startup.

The ideal partner will be responsible for shaping our financial strategy, ensuring the company's financial health,

and contributing to our mission to serve each and every changemaker with a purposeful cup of delicious intensity.

As a co-founder, you will be an integral part of our leadership team

and play a key role in shaping the future of the Kawa Yetu brand, B2B, D2C and On-Site.

 

Key Responsibilities:

1. Financial Strategy:

  • Develop and implement a financial strategy that aligns with our mission and long-term goals.

  • Create financial models and forecasts to guide strategic decision-making.

  • Ensure sound financial practices, transparency, and accountability.

 

2. Fundraising:

  • Identify and secure funding opportunities, including investments, grants, and partnerships.

  • Manage relationships with investors and financial stakeholders.

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive fundraising strategy.

 

3. Financial Management:

  • Own financial planning, budgeting, and reporting.

  • Monitor cash flow, financial performance, and risk management.

  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and reporting requirements.

 

4. Sustainability and Impact:

  • Integrate sustainability and social impact into financial planning and decision-making.

  • Measure and report on the social and environmental impact of our operations.

  • Drive initiatives that support the well-being of African coffee roasters.

  • Cultivate seeds of growth, well-being and prosperity for the better of People and Our Planet.

 

5. Team Leadership:

  • Build and lead a high-performing Finance & Accounting team, incl external service providers.

  • Foster an entrepreneurial culture of driven changemakers, unrelenting doers and inspired enablers.

 

6. Business Development:

  • Contribute to the growth of the company by identifying new market opportunities and revenue streams.

  • Develop and own effective pricing strategies and unit economics across retail categories.

  • Collaborate with other co-founders and team members to drive the company's overall success.

What you bring:

  • You have a previous experience in financial administration roles, ideally in a startup.

  • You possess a strong affinity for financial planning, with total P&L and Cap-Tables ownership.

  • You have a basic understanding of the Food & Beverage industry, or the willingness to learn.

  • You are interested in fundraising, investment, and forging financial partnerships, or the willingness to learn.

  • Resiliency: startups are messy and chaotic. You have the strength and bandwidth to navigate complex and/or conflicting priorities (IMPORTANT!), you’re a self-starter and a team player.

  • You appreciate social impact and you can tell its story through figures.

  • Nice2Have: ideally you are of African descent or you have experience doing business in Africa.

  • You bring charisma and personality and ingenuity in problem-solving.

 

Benefits:

  • In addition to the self-evident layer of meaning and purpose, the role will be compensated at a 10% equity stake.

  • Important: this isn’t a salaried position. As a co-founding partner, you will co-own the business.

  • Remote and flexible, to be considered a side-hustle with the intent to transform it into a bona-fide success story.
